Pentatonic Across the Neck

Five overlapping shapes cover the whole neck — and every one of them is two scales at once. A minor pentatonic and the major pentatonic a minor 3rd above it share the exact same five notes, so each shape below has both a minor root and a major root marked on it. Learn them in order, left to right below, and there's nowhere on the fretboard this scale doesn't reach.

Each box's last note on a string is the next box's first — that's how all five chain into one continuous climb up the neck.

How the Boxes Connect

On every string, the second note of a box is the first note of the next one. Follow one string through all five boxes and it never repeats a fret — it just keeps climbing. That shared note is where one shape hands off to the next.
